Chapter 10: Happiness Found

Two weeks passed, and Emma was losing hope. Liam and Sophia had vanished without a trace, leaving behind a trail of unpaid bills and angry clients. The police were still searching, but every lead had gone cold.

“They could be anywhere by now,” Emma said, staring at the map on her phone. “They could be in another state, another country. We’ll never find them.”

“Don’t say that,” Chloe said, squeezing her hand. “They’ll make a mistake. They always do.”

But Emma wasn’t so sure. Liam and Sophia had proven themselves to be cunning, ruthless, and willing to do whatever it took to protect themselves. They had escaped every attempt to bring them to justice, and Emma was starting to think they would never pay for what they had done.

Meanwhile, Emma’s career was starting to recover. The police investigation had cleared her name, and clients were slowly starting to return. Ethan’s company, Nexus, was preparing to launch their new brand, and Emma’s work was getting attention in the industry.

“You’re going to be a star, Emma,” Ethan said over dinner one night. “Everything you’ve been through – it’s going to make your story even more compelling.”

Emma smiled, but her heart wasn’t in it. She was still thinking about Liam and Sophia, still worrying about when they would reappear and try to destroy her again.

Just then, Emma’s phone buzzed. It was a text from an unknown number: “We haven’t forgotten about you, Emma. We’re going to make you pay for what you did to us.”

Emma’s blood ran cold. It was Liam – or Sophia – threatening her again.

“What’s wrong?” Ethan asked, noticing her expression.

Emma showed him the text, and his jaw tightened. “We need to go to the police again. Show them this message.”

But the police couldn’t do anything – the message was sent from a burner phone, and there was no way to trace it. Liam and Sophia were staying one step ahead, always watching, always threatening.

Over the next few days, Emma received more threatening messages – some from Liam, some from Sophia, some from unknown numbers. They were taunting her, reminding her that they were still out there, still plotting their revenge.

“They’re playing with us,” Chloe said, pacing around the apartment. “They want us to be afraid, to constantly look over our shoulders.”

“It’s working,” Emma admitted, her voice trembling. “I can’t sleep, I can’t work properly. I’m always wondering when they’re going to strike next.”

Ethan was incredibly supportive, listening to her fears, holding her when she cried, and helping her brainstorm ways to track down Liam and Sophia. But nothing seemed to work – they were always one step ahead.

Then, Emma had an idea.

“What if we use their own tactics against them?” she said, her eyes widening. “What if we plant a fake opportunity – something that looks too good to pass up – and wait for them to take the bait?”

Chloe and Ethan exchanged glances. “That could work,” Ethan said. “But it’s risky. They might realize it’s a trap.”

“It’s a risk we have to take,” Emma said, her voice firm. “I’m tired of living in fear. I’m tired of them controlling my life. It’s time to end this once and for all.”

They spent the next few days planning the trap. Emma created a fake business opportunity – a high-paying consulting gig with a fake tech company. Chloe reached out to her influencer contacts, asking them to spread the word about the opportunity. And Ethan reached out to his own network, making sure the opportunity looked legitimate.

Within days, they received a bite – an email from a Gmail account with no identifying information. The sender was interested in the consulting gig and wanted to schedule a meeting.

Emma’s heart raced as she typed back, agreeing to meet them at a coffee shop in downtown Seattle. She knew it was risky, but she was desperate to finally catch Liam and Sophia.

On the day of the meeting, Emma arrived early, ordering a coffee and sitting at a table near the back of the shop. Chloe and Ethan were stationed outside, watching for anyone suspicious.

The minutes ticked by, and Emma’s nerves grew. What if they didn’t show? What if they realized it was a trap?

Just as Emma was about to give up, two people walked into the coffee shop – Liam and Sophia. They were wearing baseball caps pulled low over their faces, trying to disguise themselves, but Emma recognized them immediately.

She signaled to Chloe and Ethan, and they burst into the coffee shop, blocking the exit.

“Going somewhere?” Chloe asked, her voice cold.

Liam and Sophia froze, their expressions changing from confusion to horror. They had walked right into the trap.

“I think we have some unfinished business,” Ethan said, stepping forward. “About all the things you’ve done to Emma.”

The police, who had been waiting nearby, entered the coffee shop and surrounded Liam and Sophia. They were finally caught – and this time, there was no escape.

Emma watched as they were handcuffed and led out of the coffee shop, her hands trembling. It was finally over – the attacks, the sabotage, the fear. Liam and Sophia were going to pay for everything they had done.

“You did it,” Chloe said, hugging her tightly. “You caught them.”

“I couldn’t have done it without you,” Emma said, tears streaming down her face. “Thank you for everything.”

Ethan hugged her too, his arms warm and comforting. “You’re safe now, Emma. They can’t hurt you anymore.”

And for the first time in months, Emma believed it was true. She was finally free.

But little did she know, the fall was only just beginning. As Liam and Sophia were taken away in police cars, they were already planning their revenge – even from behind bars.

And Emma wasn’t done with them yet.
