Chapter 10: Happiness Found - A New Chapter in Seattle with Love

This entry is part 10 of 10 in the series From Heartbreak to Happiness: How I Rebuilt My Life

“Emma, I’ve been wanting to ask you something,” he said, his eyes meeting hers. “How would you feel about moving in together?”

Emma’s heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t expected this, but the moment he said the words, she knew she wanted it. She wanted to wake up next to Ethan every day, to share her life with him, to build a future together.

“Yes,” she said, tears welling in her eyes. “Yes, I would love that.”

Ethan’s face lit up, and he reached across the table to take her hand. “I love you, Emma. I think I’ve loved you since the day you walked into my office with that portfolio.”

“I love you too,” Emma said, and she meant it. For the first time in her life, she was saying those words to someone who deserved them, someone who would treat her the way she deserved.

That evening, Emma and Chloe celebrated with champagne and laughter. “I’m so happy for you, Em,” Chloe said, hugging her tightly. “You deserve all the happiness in the world.”

“I am happy,” Emma said, and she realized it was true. For the first time in years, she wasn’t just existing – she was living. She was pursuing her dreams, building her career, and loving someone who loved her back.

But there was still one more thing she needed to do before she could truly move forward.

The next week, Emma went to the prison where Liam and Sophia were being held. She had requested a meeting with them, wanting to say everything she had been holding back for months.

When she walked into the visiting room, Liam and Sophia were already there. They looked different – tired, defeated, angry. Their expensive clothes were gone, replaced with standard prison uniforms. Their carefully maintained appearances were gone, replaced with the hard reality of their situation.

“Emma,” Liam said, his voice lacking the confidence she was used to hearing. “I… I’m sorry about everything.”

“I’m not here to hear your apology, Liam,” Emma said, her voice steady. “I’m here to tell you something.”

Sophia’s eyes narrowed. “What do you want from us?”

“I want you to know that you haven’t destroyed me,” Emma said, looking at them both. “I know that was your goal – to break me, to make sure I could never move forward. But you didn’t. I’m stronger now than I ever was with you. I’m happier now than I ever was with you. And I’m successful now – successful on my own terms, without your help.”

Liam’s face flushed with anger. “You think you’re better than us? That you’ve won?”

Emma smiled, a genuine smile that reached her eyes. “I don’t think I’m better than you, Liam. I know I am. I’ve built a life I’m proud of, a career I love, and a relationship that’s based on mutual respect and love. You two? You’re sitting in prison, paying for the crimes you committed against me.”

Sophia’s eyes filled with tears, but Emma didn’t feel sorry for her. She didn’t feel anything but a sense of peace, of closure, of finally being free.

“I’m done with you,” Emma said, standing up. “Both of you. You don’t get to control my life anymore. You don’t get to make decisions for me. You don’t get to hurt me.”

“Wait, Emma,” Liam said, his voice cracking. “I… I still love you. I want to make this right.”
